Marisa Tomei - born on December 4, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York - is an American theatre, film and television actress gaining fame for the first time on the sitcom "A Different World" in 1987. She is the proud owner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the performance in "My Cousin Vinny (1992) receiving further Oscar nominations for her performance in the movies "In the Bedroom" (2001) and "The Wrestler" (2008).

She achieved commercial success with the movies "What Women Want" (2000), "Anger Management" (2003) and "Wild Hogs" (2007), being critically acclaimed for her great performances in "Unhook the Stars" (1996), "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" (2007) and "The Wrestler" (2008).

Marisa Tomei was born in Brooklyn, New York as an Italian American. She grew up in the Midwood area of Brooklyn, having a younger brother, actor Adam Tomei, being partially raised by her grandparents, Rita & Romeo Tomei. In Brooklyn, she became fascinated by the shows on Broadway and being attracted to professional acting.

Following graduation, Tomei attended Boston University for a short period, moving to New York University in 1983 and dropping out of school for a co-starring role in the soap opera "As The World Turns".
